A Pretty Crappie Day!

We are into our second ice fishing season here in the Kawartha’s and it is going great. Pan fish are what we are all after and there have been some nice slabs hauled up from the icy waters.

When the weather is mild, the sun is out and the winds are down the Crappie bite is on. The technique is simple you simply require a light jig and then you can hook on a live minnow, some gulp minnows or a plastic tube all are working great. The key to the Crappie is to not fish below them, with there eyes placed high on their head the fish will not swim down for food. Weeds are also ideal for catching these tasty creatures. Once you have augured a hole and weeds come up you are bound to get into them. It is an amazing way to get outside and pass the long winter months.
